Health experts say that incorporating more beans into a diet may reduce the risk of heart disease, the Des Moines Register reports.The United States Department of Agriculture recently released the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which showed that beans can help lower blood cholesterol and blood pressure levels. Furthermore, legumes are also a lower-fat source of protein, unlike other options such as beef, pork and eggs.Beans are also a good source of fiber, which has been shown to help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, obesity and type 2 diabetes. They are loaded with potassium which studies have revealed may lower blood pressure by helping prevent the adverse effects of sodium.The USDA recommends that individuals consume about 15 grams of fiber each day. However, experts say that 25 grams of fiber for women and 38 for men should be part of their daily diet.According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 631,636 people died of heart disease in 2006.
