Researchers investigate the process of fat formation
While moderate amounts of adipose tissue promote good health, many individuals who are overweight or obese suffer from related diseases. Now, researchers have identified a body protein that may aid in developing new strategies to combat the formation of excess fat cells, according to a recent study published in the journal Cell Metabolism. The scientists explained that adipose tissues store lipids, which are derived from the contents of an individual's diet. This is an important function, since organs or muscles could potentially be damaged by fatty materials if they were not safely deposited in these designated areas. The new discovery of the protein TLE3 indicates that these molecules play a dual role in the formation of fat cells. The experts said that they act as switches by turning on signals that incite fat cell development and turning off those that inhibit the formation of adipose cells."Our goal is to understand how fat cells form so that we can develop better treatments for obesity and related disorders," lead researcher Enrique Saez said.Individuals who want to reduce excess body fat may consider limiting their daily calorie intake and eating balanced diets that are rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains. ...
