You’ve heard about the HCG diet, the new fabled miracle diet. What you want to know is, what exactly is the HCG diet protocol, and where did it come from? Why is it such a miracle, and is it all hype, or will it work for you?
Your Questions Answered
Well, luckily, we have some answers for you! The HCG diet originated approximately 50 years ago with a physician by the name of Dr. Simeons who worked with overweight and obese patients.
Dr. Simeons observed the tendency, particularly in patients diagnosed as obese, of the body to hoard what he considered abnormal stores of fat. The body refused to burn this fat, at the expense of all normal fat such as the cushioning tissue on the bottoms of the feet.
Some of these obese patients were dieting and exercising like crazy, to no avail. They were losing all of their muscle and necessary fat. Some of them experienced excruciating pain in their feet because all of that padding was gone, yet they still had these enormous stores of fat. They were literally starving, yet obese.
HCG Introduced
Dr. Simeons, after extensive research and study of these patients, determined that the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin, or HCG, would signal the body to start burning this abnormal fat when the patients were simultaneously reduced to a 500-calorie diet. Fat would also be relocated to the parts of the body, such as the bottoms of the feet that actually needed it.
HCG is found in all of our bodies when we’re born, but our diets and environmental factors make us lose it. Because HCG is directly involved in the ability of the body to know when to use and when to store fat, the loss of it is a part of the explanation for the prevalence of obesity in our society.
So it’s not necessarily a miracle diet. It’s just good science, the way nature would work without the negative alterations we’ve caused in its processes. As far as whether it will work for you, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t!
