What is Homeopathy
Homeopathy simply means, at its most basic level, treating an illness with a very small dosage of a natural substance that would cause the same symptoms, when administered in a large dose, as that illness.
How does that make sense? Well, when you think about it, symptoms are the body’s reaction to the illness, manifestations of the immune system’s attempts to fight it off. A healthy immune system can usually, given time, successfully fight off most illnesses on its own. Nevertheless even healthy immune systems can sometimes use stimulation, if only to fight off the sickness faster.
Homeopathy provides that stimulation by giving a small dose of a substance that inspires the body to react in the same way as it would to the illness itself. In effect, upping the amount of effort being put in to ridding the system of impurities.
Actually, Western medicine incorporates similar practices in immunizations and allergy treatments. When we’re immunized we’re actually given a small, dead specimen of the virus in question to teach our immune system what to look for in a disease. Sometimes, an immunization will cause mild symptoms.

Allergy treatments work by familiarizing the body with the substance to which it is having an adverse reaction—teaching it to deal with that substance. I got allergy shots every week for a few years as a child, because I was allergic to the dogs and cats my parents loved. I now live with four cats and a dog, and I’m fine.
