If you are one of the thousands of people that have discovered the HCG diet, you may have also discovered the disadvantages of HCG shots. Of course, they are derived from a natural substance and therefore are not harmful to your body, but as you would imagine, taking shots every day has its drawbacks.
The first and probably biggest drawback to taking your hormone as an injection is the fact that you have to go visit a doctor every day. After sitting in the waiting room once a day, you know that there is no such thing as a doctor visit. Although the diet protocol still calls for injections every day at the doctor’s office, a daily visit is often simply not on the agenda for today’s busy person. You could go on your lunch hour, but who can get in and out of the doctor’s office in an hour?
A second major disadvantage to taking injections is that they hurt. This is not a secret. Everybody knows that when a doctor says ‘This won’t hurt a bit’, they really mean, ‘Here, bite on this’. Of course, some doctors are better than others at giving shots, but if you’ve ever run into a doctor that can take a long thin piece of hollow metal and pierce your skin with it painlessly, you are in the minority.
A third major disadvantage of taking injectable HCG is the cost. The injections themselves cost somewhere on the order of about $10 to $12 per day. Once you factor in the cost of going out to the doctor, whether you’ll owe a copay each visit or not, gas getting there and back, and lost time waiting for them, the cost gets even higher. Most insurance plans do not cover this type of treatment, so everything is out of pocket.
The only viable alternative to taking these injections is to buy your HCG in a homeopathic drop form, whether as homeopathic or sublingual drops. These are much cheaper, usually around $3 per dose, and don’t require you to even leave your house.

I really don’t mind the shots. I never did think they hurt but the price makes all the difference for me. If the drops work as well as the shots, then I am going to try it.
