More Weight Loss Statistics: Depression And Weight Loss

Many are concerned about obesity and the need for weight loss. And some of those concerned do not need to lose weight themselves. But the issue is no longer an individual concern. It isn’t even a national concern any longer. It’s a societal concern. New statistics continue to aid us in pinpointing the causes and possible solutions as we work towards a solution to the obesity epidemic. The SSIB (The Society for the Study of Ingested Behavior) recently offered new information on the issue.

Weight loss and depression have often been considered linked. The SSIB suggests that their recent study makes this connection clear. In the past experts considered it probable that symptoms of depression would likely increase with dieting efforts. This is not the case according to the study conducted by SSIB.

The society conducted a study over the course of 6 months. Participants (both depressed and non-depressed) were asked to undertake a supervised weight loss program. The weight loss program consisted of lifestyle changes as well as dietary changes. After 6 months on the diet participants from both depressed and non-depressed study groups lost weight. (Non-depressed individuals had a slightly higher weight loss average).

Depressed individuals in the study also experienced two additional benefits.

1. They experienced noticeable mood improvement.

2. Reduced triglycerides. (As a common risk factor for both heart attack and stroke this is a health benefit).

Study conductors concluded that results indicated a positive relationship between weight loss and depression. They also concluded that further study could very likely produce findings that could be used to identify more positive connections between weight loss and psychiatric disorders.

Experts are a dime a dozen when it comes to weight loss. And many of them have different opinions. There are also many options for weight loss. Some are prescription. Some are homeopathic. Some are surgical. Consumers considering weight loss should be aware of all the options and weight the benefits with the consequences and side effects prior to committing to any program. This avoids frustration and increases that chances of successful weight loss.

HCG is a hormone naturally produced in the body. It has many functions and is used medically to treat a variety of conditions. It is the pregnancy hormone. This hormone allows the body to metabolize fat and use it as energy for both mother and fetus. This acts as a “fail-safe” mechanism when energy is needed immediately. For weight loss, we use only a very small amount of HCG to capitalize on this same mechanism. Using HCG in this way does not mimic pregnancy; in fact, it can be safely used by both men and women.

If this is a prego hormone won’t my body think I’m pregnant?
