Making The Most of HCG Weight Loss Products

Start Out By Loading Up

This is probably the most common mistake that people make on the HCG diet. They start out taking HCG drops, but then go straight to the low calorie diet. It is vital that you spend two days increasing your metabolism by loading up on high-fat, high-carb food. You should actually enjoy this; big fluffy omelets dripping with butter and deep-fried hash browns for breakfast, a double cheeseburger with the works and fries for lunch, and triple cheese pizza with sausage and pepperoni for dinner – then do it all again the next day!

The purpose here is not to allow you one last chance for indulgence before starting in on the low calorie diet; this loading prepares your physiology by increasing your metabolic rate, which leads to the furious rate of fat burning that the HCG will trigger after 48 hours of what would otherwise be “starvation rations.” (Of course, you won’t starve because you’re feeding your body what it craves – fat – and after the first two days, you’ll barely feel it.)

Listen to the Doctor

In Pounds and Inches: A New Approach to Obesity, Dr. Simeons specifically says that while on the low calorie diet, you must eat something different at each meal – and no more than one protein and one vegetable at a single meal. This is yet another mistake that people make. If you had fish and cucumbers for lunch, you need to choose lean beef and celery or chicken and spinach for dinner.

Keep Going

Another common error is to start back in on sugars and carbs too once you’ve finished the HCG. You actually need to continue the low calorie diet for at least two more days and stay away from the carbs and sugars for another three weeks. After this however, you can gradually add these back to your diet.

You Mean I’m Not a Lazy Glutton?

It has become popular in our often dysfunctional culture to blame the victim: someone who is unemployed, poor, sick or fat must have a character defect and therefore deserves what s/he gets.

Of course, you and I know very well that this is complete and utter nonsense (to put it politely) – and grossly unfair. While there may be a few individuals whose weight problem may be due to overindulgence in rich food, most people have very little conscious control over their weight. The causes may be:

  • genetic
  • cultural
  • dietary
  • glandular
  • hormonal
  • metabolic
  • age-related
  • any combination of these factors

This is what Dr. Simeons finally understood. Obesity is not a natural phenomenon, and is a complex condition with numerous causes. The bottom line is that the excess fat – known as adipose tissue – can be tricky to get rid of by simply dropping your caloric intake. Yes, anyone will eventually lose weight on a low calorie-a-day diet, but what you’re likely to lose first is not the weight you’re trying to get rid of (and it’s going to be very unpleasant).

HCG Treatments: How They Work

You may be surprised to learn that HCG itself does not burn fat or cause weight loss! HCG treatments are made up of several components that include reduction of calories and specific menu choices, collectively known as Dr. Simeons’ protocols, which were developed over half a century ago as the result of twenty years of research and experimentation.

When reintroduced into the human body, HCG triggers you own body’s innate fat-burning mechanism by restoring balance to endocrine systems that have been thrown out of balance by the nature of modern life, culture, diet, genetics and a host of other factors.

According to Dr. Simeons…

In today’s “blame-the-victim” culture, it is popular to attribute obesity to personal weakness, gluttony and poor self-control. However, Dr. Simeons realized that obesity is a complex issue with many different causes, which range from psychological and social factors to genetics and even pathologies. In 1954, he wrote that:

“…every ounce of abnormally accumulated fat is always the result
of the same disorder of certain regulatory mechanisms. Persons
suffering from this particular disorder will get fat regardless of whether
they eat excessively, normally or less than normal. A person who is
free of the disorder will never get fat, even if he frequently overeats.”

He also noted that in some cultures, obesity was “considered a sign of health and prosperity in man and of beauty, amorousness and fecundity in women.” Over the course of the centuries, natural selection made a certain percentage of the population genetically predisposed to be overweight.

Yet another factor lies in our modern eating patterns of taking large meals at widely-spaced intervals:

“The whole structure of man’s omnivorous digestive tract is, like that
of an ape, rat or pig, adjusted to the continual nibbling of tidbits. It is
not suited to occasional gorging as is, for instance, the intestine of the
carnivorous cat family. Thus the institution of regular meals, particularly
of food rendered [digested] ly, placed a great burden on modern
man’s ability to cope with large quantities of food suddenly pouring into
his system from the intestinal tract.” (Simeons, 1954)

Not All Fat Is the Same

In his research, Dr. Simeons identified three distinct types of fat:

  • Structural, or visceral fat: this is a type of fat that cushions and protects the internal organs and is embedded in the soles of the feet, allowing us to walk upright
  • Normal reserve fat: this is stored in small amounts throughout the body, providing and readily-available energy when needed
  • Abnormal Fat: this is the fat that accumulates around the abdomen, hips and thighs, and is the most difficult to get rid of.

It is the third form of fat that HCG treatments target. You might visualize this type of fat as stocks, bonds and property that may represent real wealth – but is not terribly useful in the event of an emergency that requires ready cash.

HCG is like “liquidating” these assets, making them readily available for your energy needs when you are on a reed-calorie diet as specified in Dr. Simeons’ protocols.

Dr. Simeons’ Diet: Startling Discoveries

Dr. Simeons’ diet was not a discovery; rather, it was the end result of many years of research and experimentation. In some ways, it is still a work in progress as we continue to refine and perfect the HCG program and build on Dr. Simeons’ protocols.

Dr. Simeons Goes to India

Dr. Albert T.W. Simeons was born in London, England in 1900. There is little available material regarding his early life, but after the First World War, he was able to attend the University of Heidelberg Medical School in Germany, which remains one of Europe’s preeminent medical schools. He graduated summa cum laude and went on to complete residency programs in Switzerland and Austria, ultimately specializing in endocrinology.

Eventually, Dr. Simeons developed an interest in tropical diseases; among medical historians, he is best known for developing a diagnostic procedure for malaria in addition to inventing the first modern early pregnancy test – which is designed to detect HCG.  Though it should be noted that presence of HCG in the body will not necessarily result in a positive reading on a pregnancy test.  Nor does placing HCG drops directly on a test necessarily result in a positive reading.

It is in his work in the latter area where the real story of the HCG weight loss method begins.

The “Fat Boys”

Dr. Simeons’ interest in tropical diseases eventually led him to India in 1930, at that time part of the British Empire. Taking up a post in Mumbai (Bombay), Dr. Simeons began treating young men who, because of a disorder of the pituitary gland, had experienced delayed puberty – and at the same time had become morbidly obese.

Doctors at that time had just begun using Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (a hormone produced by women during the early weeks of pregnancy) as a treatment for these kinds of pituitary problems. Dr. Simeons was administering this treatment to the patients he identified as “the Fat Boys” and noticed something interesting: as it stimulated the development of secondary sexual characteristics in these patients (lowering of the voice, facial hair, etc.), it also appeared to trigger weight loss.

Dr. Simeons spent most of the next two decades studying this phenomenon. His conclusions on obesity led him to develop what we now know as “Dr. Simeon’s Protocols” – the specific menus of a low calorie diet combined with small doses of the HCG hormone.

What Kind of HCG Results You Can Expect

It is safe to say that HCG works as hard as you do. HCG results are directly proportional to how closely you follow Dr. Simeons’ protocols. A low-calorie a day diet may seem rather harsh, and under normal circumstances, it would be. Your body needs more than the limited calories allowed on a low calorie diet each day.

However, when hormone-replacement therapy in the form of HCG injections or drops is added to the equation, you do not actually need to consume that many calories. In fact, you don’t even feel it, in most cases, because your body is eating up your excess fat at a prodigious rate to the point that you may lose weight per day.

Does it Really Work?

In many cases, people have indeed experienced those kinds of weight loss results. However, weight a day is more realistic for most people on the HCG diet. That’s still nothing to sneeze at, however. Losing 40 pounds in six weeks is an impressive achievement, made all the more attainable with the use of HCG.

Here’s the math: if you are an average woman, you normally need 2,000 – 2,300 calories per day. Men require 2,700 – 2,900 calories. While on the HCG program, you are ingesting far less.

So, let’s say you need 2,weight loss per day in order to maintain your basic metabolic functions. That extra 2,000 calories have to come from somewhere, right? This is where HCG comes into the equation. By unlocking those excess fat deposits, this hormone makes those fat cells available to your body as fuel.

Okay, there’s a problem. There’s 3,weight loss in a pound of human fat. Therefore, even if you are following the HCG diet, you aren’t going to burn that many calories in a day. 2,500 – 500 = 2,000, which is not quite a pound’s worth. Right?

Not necessarily.

Preparation for the Diet

Remember, before you start the HCG diet, you are to spend two days gorging yourself on all the high-fat food you can lay your hands on. The purpose is to rev up your metabolic rate so that you are actually burning more calories than you would normally.

The other factor is to deny yourself fat in any form whatsoever, which means eliminating any form of fat that may be applied topically – as in skin creams and many kinds of soap. Most of these products contain vegetable fat in some form. Since your body craves and needs fat, it will actually absorb it from that source.

While on the HCG diet, you want to deny your body any other source of fat other than those adipose deposits around your belly, hips and thighs. Normally, these fat cells are locked up in a form that is unavailable until all other sources of nutrients have been exhausted. HCG actually unlocks those sources while directing the hypothalamus gland (the part of the brain that regulates the endocrine system and metabolic processes) to use them. Thus the reason you lose weight fast and why you lose weight from those “hard to lose” areas.

HCG Diets: When All Else Fails…

You may occasionally hear about how HCG diets failed to work for some people. Now, it’s possible that on rare occasions, a person’s unique biological makeup may make him or her naturally resistant to HCG.  Furthermore, less than 1% of those on the HCG diet experience uncomfortable side effects that may force them to stop. This can, of course, happen with any medication or type of hormone therapy.

For others however, I would ask:  Were you following Dr. Simeons’ protocols to the letter? Were you making the proper food choices?  Did you start out with two days of high-fat food followed by the low calorie diet? This weight loss method works very well for the vast majority of people who use it.

Remember what you were taught when you were in school: When all else fails, follow directions.

The Science Behind it All

Remember that Dr. Simeons was a trained, registered endocrinologist who did research on HCG for almost two decades before publishing his findings in his seminal paper, Pounds and Inches: a New Approach to Obesity. (If you haven’t yet read this paper, you should. Download it in .pdf format from our home page and study it carefully – it answers many questions you may have about the HCG program.)

Back in the 1930s and 1940s, Dr. Simeons was practicing in Mumbai, India (then known as Bombay), treating patients who had become morbidly obese due to thyroid dysfunction. Today, there are various kinds of hormone replacement therapies and medications for such conditions, but in those days, there was little that could be done.

Simeons discovered that when given small amounts of HCG, these patients were actually able to slim down naturally. This led him to conduct further research, which culminated in his now-famous protocols – the basis of the modern HCG diet.

The Purpose of the Protocols

Part of the reason that HCG disappears from our bodies is our artificially-produced, over-processed, chemical-laden foods. This is why the foods you will eat on the low calorie diet should be organic.

The other reason for the protocols is to deny your body any alternative source of fat, including cosmetics and soaps containing vegetable or animal fats. The reason is simple:  You must force your body to get all its needed fat from your excess fat (adipose) deposits. You need fat in order to survive; when there is no other choice, and when HCG reprograms your endocrine system through the hypothalamus (which is responsible for these functions), you will find yourself dropping pounds on a daily basis – in some cases, two pounds a day.

HCG Fat Loss: How It Works

In other entries, we’ve discussed what HCG is and how it normally functions in the human body. Today, we’ll be delving into the actual biomechanics of HCG fat loss. It is important to understand that HCG is not a cure-all. It is one component of an overall, comprehensive weight loss method that forces your body to feed on its extraneous fat deposits (adipose).

The Nature of Adipose

This particular form of fat is especially troublesome and under normal conditions, very difficult to get rid of simply by dieting and exercise. The problem is with our evolutionary development. This form of fat evolved to function as a reserve of last resort.

Suppose you have a great financial portfolio. It is made up of cash reserves, such as checking and savings accounts; possibly some hard assets, such as gold or antiques that can be used as a medium of exchange in the event of an emergency; and investments, such as stocks and bonds or a 401k.

How the HCG Diet Plan Works

The HCG diet plan is based on science, not magic – and HCG itself is not a “magic bullet.” The hormone is only part of the overall HCG treatment, which requires that Dr. Simeons’ protocols be followed closely. Otherwise, you are not likely to get the kind of results you want.

We’ll begin with an explanation of how HCG works during the diet itself.

HCG, Fat and Your Metabolism

If you have ever tried “regular” diets, you know the routine. The moment you reduce your calories, your body responds by slowing down your metabolic rate. You exercise strenuously, cut down on your food even more, and the stubborn pounds refuse to come off. Instead of getting stronger, you become weaker as your body starts feeding on muscle mass instead of the fat you’re trying to burn off.

After a few weeks of this, you throw your hands up and walk away from it.

The problem is, you are fighting your own biological tendencies. The fat you are trying to get rid of is not ordinary fat. The HCG Difference

Adding HCG to a low calorie diet changes the equation – first by turning that stubborn fat (technically known as adipose) into a form that is more readily burned, and second by revving up the metabolism so that these fat reserves actually get used. Before starting in on the HCG diet plan, it’s important to gain some metabolic momentum. For this reason, you are to chow down on as much high-fat food as you can possibly consume for two days before you begin. This is what gets your metabolic rate up and going.

Next, you are going to drop your food intake to starvation levels of weight loss a day. In addition, you will avoid fat in every form, including certain soaps and skin moisturizers. The reason is that the body needs fat and will obtain it from the most accessible source. You are going to limit your body’s choices to your adipose deposits.

It is true that nobody can possible survive for long on a mere weight loss a day –  and the deficit is going to have to be made up somehow. Since the normal human body requires between 1,800 and 2,weight loss a day for basic needs and you will only be furnishing 500 of those calories, virtually none of which is from fat, you’ll be burning between 1,300 and 2,000 calories a day. This translates into a pound or more a day.
