The HCG diet plan is based on science, not magic – and HCG itself is not a “magic bullet.” The hormone is only part of the overall HCG treatment, which requires that Dr. Simeons’ protocols be followed closely. Otherwise, you are not likely to get the kind of results you want.

We’ll begin with an explanation of how HCG works during the diet itself.

HCG, Fat and Your Metabolism

If you have ever tried “regular” diets, you know the routine. The moment you reduce your calories, your body responds by slowing down your metabolic rate. You exercise strenuously, cut down on your food even more, and the stubborn pounds refuse to come off. Instead of getting stronger, you become weaker as your body starts feeding on muscle mass instead of the fat you’re trying to burn off.

After a few weeks of this, you throw your hands up and walk away from it.

The problem is, you are fighting your own biological tendencies. The fat you are trying to get rid of is not ordinary fat. It has a special biochemical makeup that makes it an ideal reserve fuel – after everything else has been used up. Otherwise, it is virtually inaccessible. Why Does the HCG Diet Plan Work so Well?

By now, you know that the HCG diet plan achieves amazing results for those who use the hormone correctly and follow Dr. Simeons’ protocols carefully. This has to do with how HCG works in harmony with your body rather than fighting its natural tendencies.

The HCG Story

HCG is a naturally-occurring hormone that women produce when they are carrying a child. This hormone, Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, serves a number of functions during the gestation process, all of which protect the health of the fetus.

First, HCG regulates the metabolic processes of both mother and fetus. Secondly, it protects the fetus from the mother’s immune system, much like anti-rejection drugs in transplant patients. Third, it prevents the mother’s system from leeching nutrients from the fetus in case of malnutrition.

The normal human baby comes into the world with a full supply of HCG in his/her system. During his research in India back in the 1930s and 1940s, Dr. Simeons came to the conclusion that the excess body fat that tends to collect around the abdomen and on the hips – technically called “adipose” – is an unnatural form of fat. Although it is rich in life-giving calories and nutrients, it is like gasoline that has solidified and turned to jelly or varnish. It’s still combustible, but it cannot be readily burned in the cylinders of a motor.

This is why when calories are reduced under normal circumstances, our body’s accelerator – the hypothalamus gland – first starts ordering cells to feed off lean muscle tissue (which causes us to “waste away”) and then the visceral fat that provides cushion and lubrication to our internal organs. Only then will it start feeding off of adipose – and at that point, most people feel so weak and discourages and even sick that they abandon their dieting attempts.

HCG treatments literally re-program the hypothalamus to unlock those adipose deposits first, when Dr. Simeons’ protocols and low calorie diet is followed. By cutting calories to the bare minimum on the HCG diet plan, the hypothalamus will automatically extract the extra calories needed to maintain normal metabolism from those stubborn adipose deposits.

Taking the HCG Drops

When you first start the HCG diet, you are asked to eat a lot of fatty foods to kick start your metabolism, which lasts for two days. In a world where we find ourselves heading straight for a drive through when we’re hungry, keeping to the HCG diet plan is tough.  It gets even harder if you live a fast paced life full of over-scheduled stress.  With a little preparation and planning, you can stick to the plan and find success.  Here are some tips on how to do it.

Tips to Stay on the Diet
The beginning of the diet is very different than you might expect.  There is no weight loss limit for the first two days.  Eat as much fattening food as you want, all day long if you want.  The extra fat helps your body kick start its metabolic cycle and allows the HCG to get right to work.

Once you hit the restrictive part of the diet, you’ll have to turn on your creative side and plan ahead for the day.  Before you get this far, however, it is a good idea to head out to the store and pick up some small sealing lid containers.

Start the day with breakfast at home.  Since protocol calls for coffee or tea in any quantity, enjoy a good bit of it before you head out the door.  You can take some with you when you head out the door in the morning.  Take some later in the day, but before lunch to help tide you over for a little while.

Your lunch meal will consist of 100-125 grams of a lean meat, a vegetable, a bread, and a fruit.  There are literally hundreds of combinations to  choose from, and if you prepare the meals in advance, you eliminate the possibility of eating more than you’re allowed.  You’re allowed turkey, white fish, beef, chicken, shrimp, and lobster, so you should be able to find something you like.  For dinner, you get the same choices, so prepare something in advance if you’re going to be out of the house for dinnertime.
