Dr. Simeons, after extensive research and study of these patients, determined that the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin, or HCG, would signal the body to start burning this abnormal fat when the patients were simultaneously reduced to a 500-calorie diet.  Fat would also be relocated to the parts of the body, such as the bottoms of the feet that actually needed it.

HCG is found in all of our bodies when we’re born, but our diets and environmental factors make us lose it.  Because HCG is directly involved in the ability of the body to know when to use and when to store fat, the loss of it is a part of the explanation for the prevalence of obesity in our society.

Although you have heard a lot about the HCG diet protocol recently, it is far from a new idea.  The dieting world was revolutionized way back in 1954 when Dr A.T.W. Simeons found that the hormone HCG helps pregnant women metabolize fat and could help overweight people get rid of their excess fat.  He developed “Pounds and Inches”, which spelled out in great detail the uses of the hormone and the HCG diet protocol.

The Basic Diet Described
The basics of the protocol include a low calorie diet and daily doses of the HCG diet formula.  It’s a little more complicated than that, so let’s dive right in and examine the process.

The first two days of the diet are the easiest, since they require you to gorge yourself on fatty foods.  You get to eat as much as you want for the first couple of days.  This will make sure your existing fat cells are full and ready to be metabolized.

The next three weeks are a little more restrictive.  You are limited to very few per day, which amounts to 200 grams of lean meat, two servings of bread, two fruits, and two vegetables per day.  At a first glance, you might think that you can only eat twice per day, but that is not necessarily true.  In fact, protocol calls for you to drink up to two liters of fluid per day, at any time, and in any quantity.

You are allowed one tablespoon of milk daily, as well as the juice of one lemon.  As far as seasoning goes, your choices are quite varied- just about any herb can be used, as well as limited amounts of salt, but no butter or oil for cooking.

The last and for some, the most difficult part of the protocol is the strict ban on the use of oily cosmetics.  HCG is such a powerful substance that even the presence of oil based eye liner can disrupt its function and performance.
