Isn’t it funny how dieters seem to all make the same mistake? It’s not one type of dieter or dieters on one type of weight loss program or dieters of a certain weight or age bracket. All dieters make the same common, universal, obvious mistake. It’s so repetitive. It’s the lack of a plan.
Most people have to work really hard to lose weight. It’s a desperate struggle to get a number that seems impossible to reach. There are the lucky few that can try to eat healthy all day and then reward themselves with a bowl of their favorite ice cream each night when they succeed, but these people are not normal. They have special genes or something. And if you’re one of these special people…you really don’t need to be reading articles on weight loss so move along…
Now…for the rest of us (the normal folk) who really want to lose weight, but find it more than difficult there is the need for a good weight loss plan. The weight loss plan isn’t referring to the type of diet or weight loss program. This is a personal plan that you set down for yourself.
Your weight loss plan should include a few vital elements:
1. Weight loss goal
2. A time limit: don’t make this a never ending battle. Give yourself a firm deadline.
3. Chosen weight loss method: how are you going to do it? Which program/diet?
4. Your weight loss reasoning: why are you losing weight? It’s helpful to write this down and keep it in mind.
5. Your reward for weight loss success. (Some may call it a bribe).
Reward? Bribe? Yup. That’s what we’re talking about. Bribery may be less than pretty, but it’s effective. Any parent would have to agree. So bribe yourself to stick to your weight loss plan. Why not? Make the reward personal; something that you would do almost anything to get.
1. Clothes…do you love clothes? Specify a dollar amount that you’ll get to spend at your favorite clothing store after the diet
2. a trip (a popular choice after successful weight loss is a cruise)
3. A fantastic new, designer suit (have you always wanted to own one?)
4. A party
The reward (or bribe) doesn’t need to mean anything to anyone but you. You are the only one who needs to be looking forward to it so much that you can hardly stand it. Make sure that it’s something you wouldn’t do if not for the weight loss plan. And when you stick with it…make sure to follow through. Nothing’s worse than being promised something only to have it snatched away once you’ve earned it.
